Photoshop Review.

Question One: What are the three types of edits that we have learned and in what order did we complete these edits for the Frame within a Frame project? Why do we edit photographs in this order?
The three types of edits that we have learned are Levels, Color Balance, and Vignetting. We edit photographs in this order because Vingetting is where you make a circle in the middle of your picture and change the image outside the circle. At the beginning you want to change the whole image, not what is outside of the circle. You start off with Levels so that we can change the exposure. We then use Color Balance second so that we already have the picture at the right exposure so that we know how much cooler or warmer the picture needs to be.

Question Two: What are the "quick keys" for: Move tool, crop tool, brush tool, text tool, and mask mode. We did not go over the "quick keys" for mask mode in class, find the answer through your own research.
The quick keys for move tool is "v", for the crop tool it is "c", the brush tool is "b", the text tool is "t", and the mask mode is "q".

Question Three: What are the "short-cuts" for select-all, inverse-selection and deselect-selection.
The short-cuts for select-all is ctrl + a, inverse-selction is shift + I, and deselect-selection is ctrl + D.
Question Four: Write all the steps necessary to create vignetting. Do not forget to write what brush mode we use, and what percentage of opacity, hardness and flow we use to paint the mask.
1. Select the Brush Tool.
2. Change the hardness to zero and change the Master Diameter to fit your Photograph.
3. Click Edit in Quick Mask Mode and and click on the image to get a Mask.
4. Click Edit in Standard Mode and a line should appear in the image.
5. Lastly, click on Curves to change the exposure around the circle.

Question Five: When you open a JPEG in Photoshop, how many layers do you start with, and what are they/ is it called?
There are two layers when you open a JPEG file in Photoshop and they are Background and Levels.

Question Six: Which of these buttons on your Layers palette do you press to make a new edit layer (curves, levels, color balance, ect.)? Which of these buttons do you use to delete a layer?
You use the Create New Fill, Or Adjustment Layer to make a new edit.

Question Seven: How do you "turn off" a layer/ make it invisible?
You click on the Eye next to the Layer that you want to either make visible or invisible.

  1. Hi Chris,

    This is a good start.

Q1: We start with Levels so we can check the Histogram.

Q5: When you open a JPEG, you start out with only one layer - Background.
